Program Notes

In EIMI, performers improvise in response to each other so that interaction and collaboration become essential to the composition’s realization. Sound surrounds the audience and moves across the performance space during the first processional; this slow spatial movement is enhanced by Doppler-effects when the instruments themselves are rapidly moved.

EIMI was written during the 2006 KOFOMI Music Festival in Mittersill, Austria, and premiered there by “ensemble Intégrale,” a German new music group. The title is an acronym for “ensemble Intégrale Mittersill improvisation.”
